Each year millions of people all across the world celebrate St. Patrick’s day. Many of these people are not Irish, may never even have been in Ireland, and may be largely unaware that St. Patrick is the ‘Apostle of Ireland’ who converted the Gaelic Irish from paganism to Christianity over fifteen hundred years ago.
The stories and legend of the life of St. Patrick are many and hugely varied in terms of content and indeed accuracy or truth ! The ‘Patrick’ show was written by Declan Askin in order to tell the true story as much as is possible with what we definitely know about him.
And what a story it is! This original show uses music, dance and cinematic imagery as a collaborative form of narration to explore the amazing story of Ireland’s Patron Saint.
Through the ancient art of spoken word storytelling, performer and writer of the show Declan Askin navigates this original multimedia production to achieve the ultimate artistic goal – entertaining but also enlightening the audience.
The production leaves the starring role to the story itself with original music composed and performed by Des Cafferkey, Bart De Boer, Declan Askin and Béibhinn Askin in front of an amazing digital landscape created by Paul Dunning.
The show opened first in Westport in July 2016 with award-winning choreographer Liam Scanlon heading up a troupe of young dancers including world champion Ela Kohen-Murray with Aaron Glancy and Ryan Owens – each performer displaying their own unique style and place in the performance.
